Well that’s just … Softaculous!

Having the tools to get the job done right is one of the most basic fundamentals of success.  At HostDango.com, we provide you with the tools to make sure you have what you need to complete your web-based projects.  One of those tools we provide is the Softaculous auto-installer.  No, really.  That’s the name.  Softaculous is a web-based script installer that fits right in with your cPanel account.  There’s one-click access for this one-click auto installer.  Simply log into your cPanel account and, under “Software/Services”, you’ll find the Softaculous link.

Once inside Softaculous, you have 20 categories to choose from.  A few example categories are blogs, project management, e-commerce, forums, calendars and gaming.

So what is an auto-installer anyways?

An auto-installer can be used to install scripts and/or software without you having to upload files.  There’s no databases to create.  There’s no uploading and manual running of installation programs.  All that is required is access to the cPanel account and the answers to a couple of basic questions (like a username, for instance).

Tools like this make HostDango.com an excellent choice for web hosting.  No matter the size of the project, HostDango.com provides the tools to get the project complete the first time, and on time.

Logging into your HostDango.com webmail account

Okay, so we’ve got an email account.  What now?  How do I use it?  How do I access it?

There are several different ways to access your email account.  In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to access it via your built in webmail.  Each HostDango.com cPanel-enabled account comes with three options for webmail clients.  Horde, RoundCube and SquirrelMail.

Horde RoundCube SquirrelMail

There are two options to access these.  The first of which is to log into cPanel and select it.  See the picture below.
Select "Read Webmail" in cPanel

Once you’ve selected “Read Webmail” via cPanel, you are asked which client you prefer to log into.  This is where you are given the choice of either Horde, RoundCube or SquirrelMail.
Select your webmail client here.

From there you simply select which webmail client you prefer and the web page will load into your inbox.

The other method to accessing your webmail, as mentioned above, is simply to type http://yourdomain.com/webmail (or http://yourdomain.com:2095).  This is good for bookmarking if you’re constantly on the go as you can set one of your three webmail clients to “autoload”.  As easy as one-click email!

The thing to note about this is that if you do log into your webmail account, you will be asked for your login ID.  This is your email address, not your cPanel login ID.  Very important to remember.  If you simply try to put in your cPanel login ID, the web site will reject your login attempt.

Setting up email with your HostDango.com hosting account

Creating an email account is one of the most basic, yet most essential functions of your cPanel account. One of the most common ways you’ll communicate with others is via email. If you don’t have your email account up and configured properly, chances are you’re going to have a problem with your communications flow. Here I’ll show you that, with just a few clicks, you can have your personal email account set up and receiving email.

Step 1 is to log into cPanel. This is accomplished by going to http://yourdomain.com/cpanel (or http://yourdomain.com:2082). Once you’ve entered in your login ID and password, you’re ready to start setting up your email account.

Step 2 is to select “Add / Remove E-mail Account(s)”. See the image below.
Email Setup Step 2

Step 3 is to enter in the new account information. You’ll need to set a few things.

  • Login ID
  • Domain (if you have multiple domains / sub domains)
  • Password
  • Password (repeated)
  • Account quotaEmail Step 3 - Setting account information

If you don’t have a password that you’d like to use and would like the system to set a secure password for you, you can click “Password Generator” and the system will set a password for you.

From there, you’re ready to click “Create Account”!  Future email topics include logging into your webmail email account and the options you have for selecting which webmail client fits you best as well as configuring Microsoft Outlook to work with your POP email address.
